1115年（辽天庆五年）设大宁镇，镇址在今岩城北部，属辰州建安县（县治所在今盖县城南隅）。1193年（金明昌四年）升大宁镇为秀岩县，隶东京路辰州。1204年（金泰和四年），废县为镇。
