吴礼，字子香，原籍歙县，后定居江南镇洋（今苏州太仓）。乾隆三十一年（1766年）丙戌科二甲三十一名进士，曾任宁武县知县、主事。吴礼师从山水画家周怡山，笔意秀润，风格流丽。乾隆二十二年（1757年）南巡时，吴礼凭借九如图获得奖赐。
