泰特勒原名亚历山大·弗雷泽·泰特勒（Alexander FraserTytler，1747-1813），英国著名作家、历史学家、翻译家。泰特于1747年出生于爱丁堡，自幼接受家庭教育，18岁后进入中学接受教育，随后在爱丁大学学习法律，大学期间，他对文学产生了浓厚的兴趣。1780年，他在母校任历史学教授，后又被任命为法官。
泰特勒于1790年著《论翻译的原理》一书。

提出了著名的翻译三原则：
1．译文应完全复写出原作的思想。
A translation should give a complete transcript of the ideas of the original work.
2．译文的风格和笔调应与原文的性质相同。
The style and manner of writing should be of the same character as that of the original.
3．译文与原作同样流畅。
A translation should have all the ease of the original composition.
