位于集安市境内，源于长白山老岭山脉八宝沟通和岭，向西北流经台上、花甸、财源三镇流入浑江区，全长约70公里，流域面积约1000平方公里。中游有三家子水库，下游有荒崴子、湖里两个小型水库，新开河流域，是集安市重要产粮区域，也是集安人参的发源地，新开河人参由此河冠名。
