广东路，始建于宋绍兴六年（1136年），最初名为广东路，后在祥兴元年（1278年）更名为翔龙府。孛儿只斤·忽必烈至元十七年（1280年），广东路再次更名为广州路。明洪武元年（1368年），广州路被改为广州府。

其地东南据大海，西北距五岭，治广州市，即今广东省治，基本统广、连、韶、南雄市、英、、循、梅、潮、端、康、新、春、恩、封、贺十六州，熙宁以后曰广南东路。
