宇文觉元年(557)，省邻州人渠州，容川郡属渠州。武帝天和二年(567)，改垫江县名为魏安县，仍为容川郡治所。杨坚开皇三年(583)，罢容川郡。

拓跋廓二年(555)置容川郡，治垫江县（今垫江县县城桂溪镇），隶邻州。
