字天，宁波人。生卒年均不详，约明毅宗崇祯末前后在世。生平亦不详。尝与兄性善（字与同）搜集唐诗人贺知章的遗文轶事，及唱酬题咏之词，为《贺监纪略》四卷，又有小说《四明龙会》一卷，均《钦定四库全书总目》并传于世。
