许多食用和游钓鱼类的统称。多属鲈形目(Perciformes)的3个科︰鮨科(Serranidae，包括海鲈鱼、石斑鱼属等约400多种)、石鮨科(狼鲈科，有时视为鮨科的一个亚科，约12种。
生物简介
如欧洲石鮨和条纹石鮨)、日鲈科(棘臀鱼科，包括太阳鱼、黑鲈〔黑色 bass〕)。许多其他鱼类也称bass，如石首鱼(drum)科中的似石首鱼(channel bass)、日鲈科的岩钝鲈(rock bass)和黑莓鲈(calico bass)等。
