细胞生长的温度极限为-7℃～90℃。各类细菌对温度的要求不同，可分为嗜冷菌（Psychrophiles）,最适生长温度为（10℃～20℃）；嗜温菌（Mesophiles）,20℃～40℃;嗜热菌（Thermophiles）,在高至56℃～60℃生长最好。病原菌均为嗜温菌，最适温度为人体的体温，即37℃，故实验室一般采用37℃培养细菌。
