历史记载：《三国志卷四十三 蜀书十三 黄孚吕马王张传》记载王平收编各营残余的散兵，率领将士安全退回。丞相诸葛亮诛杀了马谡和将军张休、李盛，免了将军黄袭的兵权之后，王平特别受到推崇和重用，加官为参军，统领五部兵，又兼当营屯的事，进位讨寇将军，封为亭侯。
