在元音字母A、E、I、O、U上都能用，即：â ê î ô û。长音符一般用来区分同形异义词，例如： du（de+le的缩合）和 dû（devoir的过去分词）。

跟在带长音符元音后的字母往往是T，例如： forêt（森林）。
